Earth Hour

Earth Hour was held last Saturday, on 28th March 2009. It is actually an annual event but just gained popularity in recent years. People around the world turned off their lights between 8.30-9.30pm for one hour, showing their support and sending a powerful global message that it is possible to take action on climate change.

In 2009, at the Copenhagen UN Climate Change Conference in December, the world's leaders will meet to reach a new global climate deal. There has never been a more important time to participate in Earth Hour and join the world in a visual mandate to fight climate change.

We know that hundreds of cities all around the world agreed to turn off their lights. Cities like London, Beijing, Rome, Moscow, Los Angeles, Rio de Janeiro, Hong Kong, Dubai, Singapore, Buenos Aires, Toronto, Mexico City, Istanbul, Copenhagen, Manila, Las Vegas and Cape Town have done their part. Kuala Lumpur too!

Earth Hour is a positive message of hope and action, emphasising what people can do when they act together. It will also mean that we will be part of a global reach of 1 billion people in 1,000 cities who, by simply switching all non-essential lights off, will show our support for action on climate change.

So I was a volunteer for the program under my school. The school invited public people especially children to participate in this earthly event. To make them aware of their power and responsibility towards the globe. I don’t know how successful this event was in worldly scale but I do hope people are aware of this event as much as they would act and help to delay the ‘Global Warming’ process.

So I have pictures of the event from all over the world (taken from Yahoo) posted below and I hope you enjoy the scenery as I did!

(Oh and for one of my class, I did the Ecological Footprint Test, and apparently found out that we are more environmental if we jarang mandi. Haha. That’s funny for Malaysians because we have to mandi like twice a day. If not… hihi. But this must be a relief statement for a good friend of mine. Haha. Cheers Y**, you are an environmentalist!)
